I spent some time today on Danny Sullivan’s new project site “Sphinn” and really think it has legs. There are so many social sites popping up these days, it’s all getting a bit numb and boring. I’m not sure if it’s because I knew of Danny prior to Sphinn showing up or if it’s because I read Search Engine Land occasionally, but I tend to visit this social site more often than any other lately. This made me want to learn a little more about the man behind it all.
For those of you that are not familiar, Danny Sullivan is the brain behind the Search Engine Strategies (SES) conference and most recently, the new search conference on roids, SMX. . .along with Search Engine Watch and now Search Engine Land. Here’s a few more interesting facts you might not know about him:
- The name Danny Sullivan is defined as: (Danny) – “My Judge Is God” and (Sullivan) – “Grandson of the Little Black-eyed One”.
- He helped put a face online for “Fifty Monkeys” and also built a site for a company that focuses on special green organic growing.
- In 1985, Danny Sullivan won the Indy 500. He has also been in several movies and tv shows, including Miami Vice. (Ok, ok, it’s not the same Danny we’re talking about.)
- Regardless of the similar name and look, Dan Marino is not his twin.
Overall, I think he’s a pretty smart guy. I’ve yet to meet him but Matt made an attempt at the Google dance in Seattle. After a quick rock star brush off, he returned to his game of Galaga and Matt and I went back to the bar.
