Hypothetical - Land or Water

Here’s a good survival hypothetical. I’m a huge fan of Survivorman and Man vs. Wild, which made me think of this one.

Would you rather be stranded in the middle of the hot Amazonian forest for a minimum of one month, but you are stranded without any food or water? You would have to live off of the land around you, which is full of food and water.

or
Would you rather be stranded on a raft in the middle of the ocean where you are not rescued until a month into it? You would have enough water and food to get you through the entire ordeal, but you will have to ration yourself to ensure it will last the full month.

I’ll take the forest and living off the land. The problem I would have with the raft in the ocean is that you are essentially trapped - at least in the forest you can move around and not feel quite as limited.

I’d chose the land too. At least I can still move there, find shade (it’s a forest, as you mentioned), make myself a shelter. On the ocean you’re almost dead in such a case

The land for sure.

Give me the Amazon, too. In addition to being able to fend for yourself pretty easily, you would have cover from storms and what not. Plus, sharks really freak me out ever since I read “In Harm’s Way”….

I think Les Stroud and Bear Grylls have given me ample survival training to succeed in the Amazon. Just remember: don’t eat the plants, if it’s got 6 legs you can eat it, once water reaches the boiling point it’s safe to drink, and get off the ground at night when possible.

You know what? I might do this one for the fun of it. Can I have a month off?

Land, please. I need to be able to move around (plus I don’t swim, so with my luck, I’d fall off the raft!) As long as there is plenty of food and water around - even if I have to go find it - I’ll take that in a heartbeat. Plus, if you are on a raft, you have no shelter, can’t get in the shade.

Dang, I could go on and on. I’m freaking out.

Land for me, too. I’d never be able to sleep on the ocean for fear of sharks, and I’d freak out from being confined to a raft.

Not that I wouldn’t worry about land sharks in the Amazon…

I wanted to jump in on this too. Forgot to give my stance.

No one is taking the ocean gig, huh? Well I’m glad to hear everyone’s survival skills are up to par!

Absolutely I would take the land. Man is for land. The mental breakdown of the sun, endless ocean of water you can’t drink, fear of what is underneath you… all makes for a horrible month.

Plus, you have the chance of running into some tribal community that would take care of you. ;-)

Yes, land for me also.

Ditto, land for me too.

Why on earth would anyone pick to be stranded at sea? That’s completely insane.

@Ron - I’d be putting my money on discovering some tribe to take care of me too. It’d be like an exotic holiday. Ahhhh…
