Hypothetical - How Lonely Is Lonely?

Thanks to Christine for this hypothetical idea!

Let’s say you are so tired of being lonely, you just want to find “someone” to be able to talk to about things, basically a friend and a mate. The problem is, you don’t have the time to spend looking for that special person and what time you do have, all the wrong places bring all the wrong faces.

How about a hypothetical to help? :-)

You are at a point in your life where you are ready to settle down and find a life partner. You have tried dating and keep meeting people that are nothing but a waste of time. While at a bar drowning your sorrows away, you meet a guy that says he has the solution. A 100% legal solution to cure your loneliness.

  • 1st Choice - You purchase a life-like doll that feels like a human, can perform some human movements and functions, like say comforting things when you get home from a long day of work. He or She also has some bed etiquette where depending on how you lay down in bed, it can snuggle up to you.
  • 2nd Choice - You purchase a ‘companion computer’ that is programmed to display your perfect mate. He or She; looks hot and loves to lay in bed with you when you sleep. The only problem is this is only an image, nothing physical. The program makes the image roll around and spoon with you, but that is the extent of it.

So it comes down to just ‘how lonely you really are’!

No mail order brides from Russia?

Haa… well, in a perfect world, sure. But this is a hypothetical that gives you two choices, both of which aren’t all that great.

BTW, I would definitely go with the computer. Friends come over and you can get rid of her quickly. Some doll would be tough to hide.

Plus, computers could be upgraded. Plugins. Add-ons. And so on.

But if I’m that lonely, I’ll enjoy the companionship of a “man’s best friend”.

I’m scared to answer this question…but I think I would take the doll!

I’d be too afraid that computer would turn into HAL, so I’d go with the doll, too. (As long as it wasn’t a hand-me-down from Matt.)

Thanks Ron!!! That is the last time I give you a story idea…I didn’t want “kudos” on this one… now you will have everyone wondering how lonely I might really be…lol. Well, listen up! I’m not that lonely.. I play The Sims game everyday so I have plenty of social interaction and control over my universe….j/k..

In the spirit of objecting to the above mentioned “kudos”, I’ll plead the 5th and not answer this hypo….. :)

Hmm, I probably spend more time with the computer than with anything else anyway, so I`m not sure either `solution` would work to ease my lineliness. If I had to choose, I guess I`d go with the computer image idea though.

“Friends come over and you can get rid of her quickly. Some doll would be tough to hide. ”

Ron — why would you be afraid if your friends saw your doll? Doesn’t Matt have one in his office?

:)) haha

j/k matt, i still love you.

HAAA… No, I think Mitzi has acquired the office doll. But that is a great example! There have been strangers walk into Matt’s office and that doll was just sitting there in interesting positions. All Matt could do was uncomfortably act like it wasn’t there.

But I bet he didn’t move far from his “computer companion” the entire time.
